Week Two

Well this has been a long week. Christmas Eve was the first day that I didn't go up to the barn to visit Nick (I had some last min. things to do before Christmas). Well, he goes and hurts himself. He was dragging his right back leg. I wasn't sure if it was broke or sprained. I didn't see any cuts or blood, nothing looked deformed. So I gave it a day to see if he would get any better besides it was Christmas day. Wednesday comes around and no better, the barn owner (who didn't call me the day it happened, he didn't even call me at all in fact I found him like this in his stall. I called the barn owner and asked him if he had noticed him walking funny at all. He said he was going to call me later and tell me. This was a day later that I noticed his leg was like this and he was going to call me. Whatever... anyway) says that I should wait one more day. So I do, nothings better, I call the vet and they come out and look at Nick. So one emergency call, barn call vet bill later, it's his stiffle. Not sure how he injured himself but he did. So I get some medicine to give to him through the weekend and need to call the vet on Monday to let him know the progress. Which I'm proud to say is great! He's walking on it and his spirit is great. He was mad at me today because I forgot to bring him his treats. Bad me. He's putting on weight and looking great. The farrier came out this week also, but I couldn't do anything with his leg lame. So we are going to do that the second week of January. So here are some pictures of him from today. I can already see a difference in two weeks time.

Oh btw, I found out his DOB from the previous vet that did his coggins and its August 17, 1989. So 18 years young.

Comparison Pictures

Week One...

So we've changed his feed to Purina Equine Senior and kept his stalled for this week. We turned him out today with the other horses and he did great. The barn farrier is suppose to be out next week sometime, if he isn't out by the first of Jan. I plan on getting my own farrier. I found stones in his hoof and I really want his feet trimmed ASAP. I'm not really happy with the barn he's at either but he's down here and getting what he needs. His eyes are brighter, he looks all around more healthy. Here is a picture of him from today.

Merry Early Christmas To Me!!!

I got my surprise on Sunday Dec. 16, 2007. A big 17h beautiful Buckskin Quarter Horse gelding. I know you may not see the beauty in him yet but I do. He is a sweet heart of a guy, very gentle and loving. I can't wait to get some weight on him and ride him in few months. We'll see how the time goes but here he is starting out. His name was "Rock" but I'm renaming him to give him a fresh start. So St. Nick it is, Nick for short. I got him for Christmas, so he is my Christmas rescue.
