HE'S HOME!!!!

I moved Nick home on the 13th of March. I'm so glad he is here in my backyard. He's doing great and loving being here. Getting spoiled terribly. Every time someone goes by he gets a treat (apples, carrots, granola bars... you name it). He's on family land so there is someone always going by to visit the other. His winter coat is shedding out. The more he looses the more of his dun comes out. Beautiful markings on him. He doing great gaining weight since I know what he is getting and I don't have to check behind anyone to make sure he is getting his hay and correct feed. He's doing great with his ground work and I rode him for about 5 min the other day. I need to get the correct pad for him. I got off him b/c I could tell he was uncomfortable. So no riding until we get the ride gear. Here are plenty of pics of him to see his progress...

March 9th

Nick almost three months later. Looking good and feeling better. Shedding his winter coat and showing all his beautiful dun markings. I can't think of one he doesn't have. I am hopefully going to have him moved within the month. I have the framing of the barn up which is really exciting. Then the fence which shouldn't take to long. The posts are in the ground and ready for the fence to be put up. I'll get some pictures of that and post them soon.

These were taken today. Four weeks, almost a month of being here. I plan on moving him this weekend. The barn he is at right now is not very safe. A lot of pasture room but they are unsafe with fencing falling down and concrete that he is not use to. It isn't a very good enviroment for him. His topline seems to be filling out a bit and his belly is looking good. His ribs still show a bit but it will all fill out in time. He still has the best personality that I've had in a horse. Great with the kids, just a sweet heart of a guy. I've had his hooves trimmed and he did wonderful, behaved himself like a perfect gentleman.

Week Two

Well this has been a long week. Christmas Eve was the first day that I didn't go up to the barn to visit Nick (I had some last min. things to do before Christmas). Well, he goes and hurts himself. He was dragging his right back leg. I wasn't sure if it was broke or sprained. I didn't see any cuts or blood, nothing looked deformed. So I gave it a day to see if he would get any better besides it was Christmas day. Wednesday comes around and no better, the barn owner (who didn't call me the day it happened, he didn't even call me at all in fact I found him like this in his stall. I called the barn owner and asked him if he had noticed him walking funny at all. He said he was going to call me later and tell me. This was a day later that I noticed his leg was like this and he was going to call me. Whatever... anyway) says that I should wait one more day. So I do, nothings better, I call the vet and they come out and look at Nick. So one emergency call, barn call vet bill later, it's his stiffle. Not sure how he injured himself but he did. So I get some medicine to give to him through the weekend and need to call the vet on Monday to let him know the progress. Which I'm proud to say is great! He's walking on it and his spirit is great. He was mad at me today because I forgot to bring him his treats. Bad me. He's putting on weight and looking great. The farrier came out this week also, but I couldn't do anything with his leg lame. So we are going to do that the second week of January. So here are some pictures of him from today. I can already see a difference in two weeks time.

Oh btw, I found out his DOB from the previous vet that did his coggins and its August 17, 1989. So 18 years young.
